Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing divine entities, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of heroes who will branch out from the primary party to embark on their separate journey, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team includes the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).
Dividing the Cast
Considering 13 cast members, it was clear from the beginning that having everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.
What Defines the Warrior Group
According to the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.
Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander might look unsuited, but the events of the third episode show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party knows exactly where to proceed after a violent initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.
Casimir of Thjazi—whose demise kicked off the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, striking the character, and swiping all the enchanted items to auction.
Casimir then paid off his debts and fled to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a personal reason to exit the metropolitan area:
- The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
- Tyranny and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to execute the target and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Finally, all of them are hunted by the powers that rule the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The warrior and The cleric turned against House Halovar and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- Teor is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.
